Great Female Composers, Past and Present Saturday, February 7, 2015, 8 pm

Nineteen explores the work of some of the most creative writers for modern jazz orchestra. Starting with adventuresome, densely-textured pieces written by Mary Lou Williams for the Duke Ellington orchestra in the '50s and '60s, through the post-bop intricacies of Toshiko Akioshi, the '70s' avant-gardist Carla Bley, and modernists Maria Schneider and Tamiko Tsunami.

Also featured in this concert will be compositions and performances by some of our most talented local female singers.
